By all indicators, 2020 is going to be a fantastic year in the field of automobiles. You have every reason to be thoroughly convinced of that fact because the Porsche Taycan is set to be released that year. The word on the street is that Porsche is determined to create the world’s fastest and most powerful electric car yet. This vehicle was formerly called the Mission E, and it was designed to compete with Tesla’s already impressive electric car models. With each passing month, the Porsche development team continues to tease us with details about even more exciting, new features of this vehicle. Just in case you are having trouble keeping up, here are the latest specs.
If this car is going to live up to the hype, it is going to need a serious engine. This vehicle is designed to go from zero to 100 km/h in less than four seconds. The power system is also going to pack quite a punch and be approximately 600 horsepower. The Taycan is also designed with a charging capability of nearly 800 volts.
In other words, the vehicle is designed to travel a distance of 400 km or little under 250 miles after being charged for just 15 minutes. Imagine how much ground it is going to be able to cover on a fully charged battery. The vehicle is designed to sport a lithium-ion battery that is sure to turn heads and three different initial power output options.
It was in June 2018 that Oliver Blume, Chief Executive Officer at Porsche, announced that the Mission E vehicle would be renamed the Porsche Taycan during their 70th Anniversary festivities. This mid-summer announcement shocked many since we had all grown accustomed to referring to the exciting Mission E, which was short for Mission Electric. The new name is more meaningful and when translated means “lively horse.” It was also announced that only a few, or more specifically, less than a three figure amount of these vehicles would be produced.
The concept for this vehicle surfaced in Frankfurt, Germany, in the year 2015. Its design has been a priority for the Porsche team ever since. They were so pleased with the results of their many years of research that they have decided to also incorporate this design into the features of a new SUV crossover. Their initial intention was to name the SUV the Mission E Cross Turismo. We eagerly anticipate the new name now that the name Taycan has been selected for the sedan concept. You can expect to see models of the Taycan in 2019.
As you can imagine, a design this ambitious has set tongues wagging. Thus, many rumors have surfaced regarding its capabilities, release date, cost, and design. Just think, this car completely revolutionized the way we think about electric vehicles. One thing is certain; electric vehicles are sure to become a lot more popular. Let us wait and see what new specs are going to be released next month for this ambitious new car.
