The industry of ridesharing has become highly competitive in recent years, with both Lyft and Uber kicking up the competition with ride reward program launches.
Uber announced their new rewards program on Wednesday, November 14, claiming that it is going to start in nine cities throughout the US. Their reward program comes in four tier levels, including Diamond, Gold, Blue, and Platinum. The rewards and benefits of membership increase as you go to the next tier level. Riders can earn points for the dollars they spend, which also works with any products from the ride-share service company. For example, riders can earn a point for an Uber Eats delivery or Uber Pool, as well as two points for Select, UberX, UberXL, or wheelchair-accessible rides, and can earn three points for Uber Black/BlackSUV rides.
Riders must earn 500 points to move from the Blue to Gold level, then earn 2,500 points to go to Platinum levels, and then 7,500 points to hit Diamond status. You can bankroll the points for six months, and you can keep your earned tier for the rest of that period and the next six months. For the new period, you drop back to zero points and begin again.
The reward system should work well for people who use Uber often, as every 500 points earned gives you a $5 credit for a ride or delivery. Of course, the benefits also expand as you reach new tier levels, with Diamond members earning upgrades, best-rated drivers, and no delivery fees for particular orders.
While lift has also announced their reward program, they aren’t offering much information about it at this time. They do say rewards can include discounts and upgrades for better rides.
